Caring for your Mulberry bag

Mulberry bags are not an impulse buy. You have probably thought long and hard before deciding to spend your hard earned cash on a Mulberry bag so it's wise to know how to look after your "investment". "Investment" may seem like a strange way to describe a handbag but in a way that's exactly what buying a Mulberry bag is. They are not cheap and even used bags or discounted bags that you will find on our pages are still probably priced higher than many other non-branded bags on the high street but if you look after your Mulberry and if you decide to sell it at some point in the future then you can be sure to command a respectable price for it and don't forget, what better way to generate funds for the latest Mulberry design than to sell an old Mulberry handbag :)

Mulberry use very high quality leather on their bags and there is a right and wrong way to look after them in order to get years and years of use from your purchase.

Mulberry provide and sell their own range of leather care products with the main two being Collonil leather gel and Collonil lack polish.

Collonil leather gel is a non-coloured, solvent free gel that can help to increase the water resistance of certain types of leather whereas Collnil lack polish is a polish treatment that aids resistance to moisture and dirt on leather bags.

Correct storage of your bag is essential. We don't mean wrap it in cotton wool (although that would help !) but employing some common sense making that a habit can do wonders for the longevity of your Mulberry handbag.

If your Mulberry bag came with a protective dust bag then use them ! Avoid leaving your Mulberry bag for long period in direct sunlight as this causes the colour to fade.

If you're not using your bag on a regular basis then stuff it with old wrapping paper or tissue paper (I would avoid newspaper as the print may spoilt the lining). Doing this will help ensure the bag doesn't lose it's shape and structure.

If possible pop a silica gel sachet inside the bag to absorb any moisture that could eventually lead to mildew and mold.

Try not to overstuff your bag with plenty of bulky items as it will quickly lose it's shape. Of course it is YOUR bag and you can use it however you wish but it would be a shame if your bag started to look like a wet paper bag after only a year of use.

Finally, watch those pens ! It's so easy to pop a pen into your bag only for the blasted thing to leak all over the inside of your cherished handbag !
